A week on the wild side

This week, SB has been attending camp at our local zoo. It is something she has been looking forward to for a couple of years. She had to wait until she was five. This is the first summer she qualifies, and she will attend two different sessions.

The zoo is not close to our house. It made no sense for me to return home after dropping her off. So I spent several days just hanging around the zoo by myself with the camera. I am the kind of person who could spend hours observing animals. When I go to the zoo with my young child, I don't get the opportunity.

And, hubby usually has the camera. This week, I've had the chance to indulge myself - in more ways than one. I loved it. I spent a lot of time with SB's favorite animals:

Such gorgeous creatures! Also got some good shots of other big cats: a baby Amur leopard and a baby jaguar:

I think what strikes me most about the big cats is their eyes. Of course, there are plenty of other animals at the zoo. And I took 400+ photographs of them. Here are a few of my favorites:

After being out in the heat, walking around basically nonstop all day for several days, I was tuckered out. Hubby asked if I planned to, "park myself" someplace at any point during the week.

Indeed.

I went to a state park not far from the zoo that isn't very crowded. It was a beautiful day. The sea breeze was blowing. The ocean was calm; the water temperature perfect.

Totally made up for the close to two-hour daily round trip drive all week.
