Offering strength and hope to those in need

This has been a tough year. If you spend time here regularly, you know why. If you don't, I'll sum it up in one word for you - dementia.

I have spent the better part of this year in crisis mode. It has been the most challenging and exhausting time of my life. There is no way I would be getting through it without help from friends and family.

So when I received a sample of Lunchbox Love® for Strength and Hope, I not only loved it, I truly understood the impact the cards have the ability to make. They are "heartfelt notes and inspiring quotes for the people in your life who need a little lift:"

I've needed more than a little lift. And had important people in my life who have needed the same this year. These notes carry such vital messages:

  • Call me anytime, day or night.
  • Always remember that you are loved.
  • I'll do anything to help, including your laundry. :))
  • Keep going strong and know that I am behind you all the way.
  • You're doing an amazing job getting through this.
  • You can count on me for whatever you need.
  • You're an inspiration.
  • Stay positive.
  • You are stronger than you think.
  • I'm here for you.
  • Lean on me.

When my friends reached out to help me during my family's crisis, they were saying these things through their actions and caring. And it is true actions can speak louder than words. But words also have tremendous power.

Saying the right ones at the right time can make an incredible difference for someone in need. My favorite card in the pack reads, "How can I help?" People don't always know how to ask for help. And sometimes they don't even know what they need. Asking that simple question is one of the best, most important ways to support someone you care about.

You could send one of these Lunchbox Love notes with a card. Place it in a bouquet of fresh flowers. Deliver along with a home cooked meal. They are a great way to show family and friends how much you care.

The Strength and Hope cards don't have to be used only for bad times. Some of them would be perfect after the birth of a baby, for example. Or when friends have just moved into a new home. Those are happy times, to be sure, but also situations where people could use help. And may be hesitant to ask for it.

In addition to the Strength and Hope, there are volumes for everyone in your life, for any occasion, or none at all. Learn more at SayPlease.com.

Each card in the Strength and Hope volume comes with an inspirational quote. I'll leave you with my favorite one:

"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow."
Helen Keller

I bought some flowers for my mom. And tucked one of the notes inside...

She loved it. And, since I am a member of the Lunchbox Love Mom Panel, I had the opportunity to pass these cards on to a blogger of my choice. I selected my friend Katie Sluiter, who recently wrote about a difficult loss her family suffered.

It is part of a chain the company is building to spread strength and hope to those who need it most...
