In the past, I have partnered with other bloggers to support various causes. It's impossible to participate in all the campaigns out there. But I do so when I can.
As Mother's Day is fast approaching, I'm proud to join many blogging friends in working to raise money for Edna Adan University Hospital in Somaliland.
Why this cause, and why now?
Somaliland’s health care system was utterly destroyed by the civil war leaving the country with, among other problems, the highest rate of maternal and infant mortality in the world. Every year, one baby in eight dies in infancy while nearly 4000 Somali women die in childbirth. It is a goal of the Hospital not only to train fully-qualified health care professionals but also to train and dispatch 1000 midwives throughout the country.
It's hard to imagine those numbers. They are staggering. The lovely Lacy of Living on Love has helped organize a campaign to raise money in support of the hospital's mission. In honor of Mother's Day, the following print is being sold:
What can you imagine more beautiful that creating life? All women who desire to become mothers should have the chance to know that feeling.
Beginning today, this print is available for $30. Half the proceeds will go to the Edna Adan University Hospital. US Shipping is free. If you think someone on your Mother's Day list would appreciate this piece of art and the sentiment it expresses, please consider purchasing it to support mothers a world away who need our help.
