Dear Mom I Met Online

When I made the decision to stay home with my daughter, my world shrank severely. I was not prepared. And I didn't adjust well. The first year of her life was very difficult for me.

Motherhood turned out to be the most isolating experience of my life. That was unexpected, depressing and scary.

Then I got online. And an amazing thing happened. I began to connect with women from around the globe. Other moms. Some very much like me. Others quite different.

Each of you have enriched my life.

When I need advice, you are there.

When I need validation, you are there.

When I need reassurance, you are there.

When I need to laugh, you are there.

When I need to cry, you are there.

When I need to scream, you are there.

When I need to celebrate, you are there.

When I need consolation, you are there.

When I need to know I am not alone, you. are. there.

It's impossible to detail all the ways you have supported me. Lifted me up. Helped me. I don't know what I would do without you.

Sometimes I get to meet you in person. And it's like we're old friends reuniting after a long absence. There are those who do not understand online relationships. Others who choose to use the internet to be unkind. That is their loss.

It's not that I don't have meaningful friendships "IRL." I do. Wonderful connections. Friends who are there for me when I need them, too. But life has a tendency of getting in the way of regular contact. We try, but we just don't see one another as often as we would like.

Yet any time, day or night, I can connect with you. It's easier than a phone call. Quicker than an email. More accessible than an in person get together.

Through all the joys and tribulations that come with motherhood, you are there for me. Always.

I want to take this opportunity to say, "Thank you!" From the bottom of my heart.
