The other night, I found myself with a rare, quiet night home alone. Well, not entirely alone. My three year old daughter was in her room asleep. But my husband had decided to go see a movie. One I had no interest in. I took the opportunity to start my friend Tawna Fenske's latest.
The first thought that came in to my head as I began to read Getting Dumped was, "Man, Tawna comes up with the most interesting characters!" "Quirky" does not even begin to cover it. And they are only matched by the craziness of her plots.
I mean that as a compliment. This is the third of Tawna's books I have read. And they have all been so much fun! On the one hand, I want to devour her work because reading it is such a great time. On the other, I don't want to finish too quickly, because then it will be over, and so will the fun.
Getting Dumped is active fiction, so there was some added fun to this one. At one point in the story, the reader gets to choose what happens next. The main character has three love interests. Late one night, she makes a phone call. The reader decides which gentleman she will call, and the story goes on from there.
I knew very early on which man I wanted her to be with. Let's just say I have a thing for British accents. Apparently, even when I can't hear them. But I don't know how the story ends. This was just Part One. I have to wait for Part Two to be released to keep reading.
My husband was quite surprised to return from his movie and find me still awake. I told him, "I'm almost finished, and I can't stop now!" I also told him a few minutes later I want to kick Tawna's a** for the way she ended it. Girlfriend is such a tease...
Hurry up and get your copy before Part Two comes out!
A serialized romantic caper about a woman who loses her job but finds love, intrigue, mayhem, and a new career buried in the unlikeliest of places.
Getting Dumped Part 1 is the first installment of an Active Fiction series from Coliloquy. Instead of just watching the story unfold, readers help influence future books by giving their feedback on the heroine's romantic choices.
Losing a cushy marketing job only to end up driving heavy equipment at the landfill would be a tough blow for most women, but not JJ Schultz. She gamely swaps office politics for a chance to crush garbage. But when JJ and her sister, Lori, uncover a counterfeit handbag ring, JJ finds herself unraveling a sinister plot in the company of a tie-tugging accountant, a straight-to-video action hero/secretary, a suspicious but sneaky-hot engineer, and a host of other characters with questionable hygiene and morals.
Tawna isn't sure who JJ should end up with, so she's letting her readers choose. She'll see the aggregate statistics from Part 1, so the more you read, the more you'll influence her.
