The summer of smoke

This summer has been miserable. Temperatures have been hovering around 100 for weeks. That is not anything out of the ordinary; this is Florida. Heat and humidity are par for the course here (golf pun definitely intended).
What is out of the ordinary is this:

And there are days that have been far worse than that. At the time I write this, there are close to 250 active wildfires burning in Florida and Georgia. I don't even know how to describe to you how bad it is.
Of course, the smoke is an inconvenience, but these fires are more than that for many people. While much of the thousands of acres that are burning are unpopulated, not all are. Towns have been threatened, homes have been destroyed, and sadly lives have also been lost.
We need rain. The little we have gotten has only made things worse. The winds from thunderstorms drive the flames. Lightening sparks new fires. We have not gotten enough rain to have any positive impact. We need a system to come along and dump inches of rain on us over a period of days.
I hate to say that, this being hurricane season and all. Don't need to trade one natural disaster for another. But this Summer of Smoke has got to end!
