SB and I went out to lunch with her former speech therapist Miss Natalie on Friday. It was so good to see her. SB was really excited, and Miss Natalie loved hearing all her new sounds and words. We also got to chat as adults for the first time, and it was nice to get to know a little more about her.
She told me she has had very few former patients stay in touch with her. Which I found so odd. The way I look at it, Miss Natalie started us on a very long and important journey. It only makes sense, even though she is no longer part on the journey with us, to keep her up to date.
I guess for some, however, this journey is painful, and they don't like to be reminded once they have arrived at their destination. But I don't see it that way. I can tell Miss Natalie is genuinely interested in SB's progress, and happy that we are staying connected to her.
I think we are all going to be friends for a very long time...
