Another Ross's Rad Reads Award

It's time for another Ross' Rad Reads Award! I told you I would use my new award for books I read that I heard about through or were written by people I know. Well I've got a great one. The lovely Kelly Breakey had a blog contest recently, and I won! For my prize, she sent me a copy of Gods In Alabama. I had never heard of it, or the author, Joshilyn Jackson.
I already had a tall To Be Read pile, so I threw it on top. There were others ahead of it, and I don't have that much time to read. But one day, after a very hard week with a sick child, my husband suggested I go to the beach for the day to relax. I decided that was an excellent idea. I threw a chair in the back of my car and grabbed Gods in Alabama. It seemed a good beach read.
This was one of those books I could not stand to put down and did not want to see end. I LOVED it! I stayed up 'till the wee hours of the morning trying to finish it. Eventually, I had to turn out the light, but I picked it up the next day and eagerly read the last few chapters.
This is an amazing debut novel. I highly recommend it. And I cannot wait to read more of Jackson's work...

  1. Good choice! Kelly IS totally rad. :)

  2. P.S. So is Gods In Alabama, of course! :)

  3. Ooh, I love book tips. Thanks! I've actually found blogging to be a surprisingly good source of book recommendations.

  4. Off to Amazon right now. Always looking for books to share with my MIL! Thank you!

  5. @ Linda - I agree on both counts, obviously! We are of like mind. ;)

@ Kristen - Blogging and Twitter have both been great sources for sure!

@ Mad Woman - I passed it on to my mom, and she has recommended it to one of her book clubs. She loved it, too.

  6. this book rocked my socks off. i was so glad to have it as a book club choice since i wouldn't have picked it up otherwise.

  7. Sold! I am looking for 2011 book club ideas, and I think you just gave me my 1st pick.....

  8. Hey,

I'm not sure if Joshilyn is still a part of the group since I am mostly a lurker myself, and I haven't even been doing that well, but if you join Yahoo's MomWriter's group, you could chat with her and many other writers who are also mothers.

I don't participate much myself, but I learn a ton as I read along. I bet you could get a roaring conversation going about the "To work or not to work" question, and most of the time people remain kind even when they disagree.

  9. Great recommendation. I would love to support new writers. And what a husband to send you to the beach by yourself. He gets points for that!

  10. what's the basic plotline? I'm always looking for new reads :)

  11. I am so glad you liked it and Congrats on the win! We have another great read coming up this week which means another great contest.

I value your input, and appreciate your taking the time to not only read, but also comment on this post! Thank you! Please come back often and keep the discussion going...
