More than enough

Tomorrow is my birthday, and I don't mind telling you I will be 42 years old. I'm not hung up on numbers anymore. There's no point. The years are going to roll by whether we acknowledge them or not. And there are actually some good things about getting older.
It is often said, "With age comes wisdom." But I think what you really gain is the ability to truly be thankful. Age brings perspective. It enables you to appreciate the little things, and recognize what matters in life.
When you are young, you spend a great deal of time wanting more. But as you age you spend your time reflecting and noticing the people and things around you. Really noticing them. I have learned to be grateful for what I have, and know it is more than enough.
Motherhood took that to a whole new level. Seeing the world from my daughter's eyes makes everything wondrous and new again. My edges are less jagged and more smooth. I'm not so jaded and cynical. And I don't care about my age.
I will spend my birthday with my husband and daughter at the zoo tomorrow, weather permitting. I love going there with her. Each time she is more responsive and excited about what she sees. It is so much fun to watch.
Later in the week, I will be treating myself to a day of pampering at an oceanfront spa. I have a massage, facial and pedicure scheduled. For which I am very, very grateful.

In honor of my 42nd birthday, I would like to once again celebrate all the ways I am MOM SEXY!

  4. WOOT! Welcome to the world of 42! I agree on the foolishness of aging angst since it doesn't change a thing, except for giving you frownie lines which everybody knows age a person more than laugh lines. So I say, laugh in the face of those fine lines and crepiness! Happy Birthday! :)

  6. I refuse to fight nature... I'm done dying my very gray hair to only have it show again in two days. I will never botox my face so much that it no longer makes an expression. We can be beautiful at any age! Love you!

  7. Such wisdom sounds more 82-ish than 42-ish! Congratulations on being so observant...and for expressing it so eloquently, especially considering your youth!

  14. Happy birthday! We must be kindred spirits. My husband was at work but I was thrilled to be spending the day with my son and doing things in which I knew he would take delight. Today? I'm off to get a facial ;)
